Notes
on baseline (pre-requisites, etc.)
|
- All
Education students will have Qualified Teacher
Status, but may well not have covered this material(!).
- PCET
students holding our PGCE(PCE) will have covered
some of this before at a lower level—need to
make sure there is enough new stuff for them.
- Can
at least rely on experience of teaching.
- Developmental
issues (inc. Piaget etc.) will be covered in
phase-specific modules for Education students
- Ditto
"gross" sociological factors
- (Possible
but unlikely students from other MA programmes
under opt-in scheme: check, and ensure they
have access to observation opportunities)
- Usually
first or second M module taken: may not be familiar
with M level requirements
|
|
Required
outcomes: (students will be able to...)
|
- Assess
the cultural (including social, political and
economic) factors which affect the learning
process
- Evaluate
critically the relevance and contribution of
learning theories to the practice of teaching.
- Analyse
episodes of learning in terms of alternative
accounts.
- Discuss
the previous, current and potential impact of
technology on learning and teaching
|
|
Summative
assessment
|
- 5,000 word assignment.
- Default title:
"Provide a critical observation of
a period of teaching (max 1,000 words) illuminated
by at least two theoretical perspectives, with
a reflective evaluation of the utility of those
perspectives for practice."
- Due: 17 May
|
|
Special
Issues
|
- Address M level
writing requirements
- Ethical clearance
issues for the assignment
- Remember outcome
4!
- Refectory closes
at 1830.
- A visually-impaired
student in the group—may need large-print handouts,
and copies of slide diagrams in advance.
