I’m Austin Cory Bart, a Junior attending the University of Delaware. I’m pursuing an Honors degree in Computer Science. My current goal in life is to become a Professor of Computer Science. Although I have yet to choose a concentration and research focus, I have decided to focus strongly on teaching. I’ve been programming for the past nine years, ever since I learned Pascal back in sixth grade. During that time I’ve begun and completed several independent projects, which have grown in size, complexity, and quality. Since coming to college, my knowledge of computer science has been strengthened and formalized. Computer Science is my life’s greatest passion and thoughts about it fill most of my waking hours. To me, Computer Science is the closest humans will ever get to magic. It is not about programming or working with computers. It is about modeling, analyzing, and improving our world. It is about thinking about abstracting and decomposing. It is all this and so much more. In an influential article, Dr. Jeannette Wing wrote the following: Computational Thinking is a grand vision to guide computer science educators, researchers, and practitioners as we act to change society’s image of the field. I agree with this assertion and hold as one of my personal beliefs that Computer Science should become an integral part of every person’s intellectual education, even at a very young age.
